Intent
At Burrowmoor Primary we are committed to developing each child’s spiritual, moral, cultural, and mental education through our teaching of Personal, Social, Health, and Citizen Education (PSHCE) and the Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) curriculum. We aim to effectively prepare pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life, giving them the skills, knowledge and wellbeing support to develop resilience and character in order to be happy, successful, and productive members of society.
Implementation
At Burrowmoor Primary we use the ‘Cambridgeshire PSHE’ curriculum along with other identified topics that link to our area and locality.
The curriculum is divided up into three main themes:
- Myself & My Relationships
- Citizenship
- Healthy and Safer Lifestyles
PSHCE and RSE are delivered through various approaches chosen by the class teacher to meet the needs of the children in their class. The teaching of themes is built on year by year and pupils have regular opportunities to reflect on and identify what they have learned.
Impact
By teaching pupils to stay safe and healthy, and by building self-esteem, resilience and empathy, our PSHCE programme will tackle barriers to learning, raise aspirations, and improve the life chances of our pupils to become happy, successful, and productive members of society.
Enrichment
Our increasingly complex world and changing lifestyles can present many positive and exciting opportunities for our children. However, it can also bring challenges and risk. In this ever-changing environment, children need to know how to be safe and healthy and how to manage their personal, social and academic lives in a positive way. We enrich our PSHCE and RSE curriculum in many ways. This may include:
- Anti-bullying week activities
- Bike ability training
- Mindfulness teaching
- Online safety week
- School clubs
